Benjamin Smith Lyman transcribes two letters. One from his friend Félix Foucou that compliments James Lyman's essay "France: Its Present Policy and Government" and requests a meeting with James in New York. The other of his response to Foucou, including a note that he will send a letter of introduction to James. The letter includes an envelope postmarked in Philadelphia, but with Benjamin Smith Lyman's address in Calcutta, India on the flap.
