Plain nonpareil mat stamped "Chase" on lower right surrounded by ornate protector. Red velvet lining embossed with ornate floral design of with two intertwined roses as a central motif. Brown pressed paper case bears design of three flowers surrounded by ornate nonpareil design front and back. Two hook-and-eye latches. Stamp suggests the daguerreotypist is either Lorenzo G. or E.B.Chase who flourished in Boston between 1844 and 1856. Case dates daguerreotype ca.1847. Purchased from Mack Lee. 1982. #8268.
