Title (alt.):
MR. DUPIN IN HIS LITTLE SHOES. Once Mr. Dupin noticed that one started a heated discussion about the reform of the election laws, he considered it the right moment to show himself....... at Clamecy.. Charivari
Description:
This image refers to elections for a new law presented on May 31, 1850 that resulted in the reduction of the electorate from 9,600,000 voters to only 6,800,000 voters. To give some legality to this maneuver it was reasoned that a voter had to live at least three years at his domicile in order to be allowed to cast his vote in general elections. This print shows André-Marie-Jean-Jacques Dupin (1783-1865) in his oversize shoes, leaving the rostrum carrying the election results on his drooping shoulders.
