Indor Jag Mohan was a Brigadier in the British Army. Following the Second World War, Brigadier Mohan arrived in Saigon with the British forces under General Gracey. He describes the atmosphere in Saigon with British, French, and Japanese troops, and armed Vietnamese civilians who believed their colonization was ending. As fighting broke out between the French and Vietnamese, the British re-armed the Japanese Army and charged them with maintaining order. When the British left Indochina, the French were left in charge, setting the stage for the Indochinese War.
