In this episode, Erica demonstrates techniques for designing geometric needlepoint designs with an op art or trompe loeil effect. For design inspiration, she suggests looking at op art wallpapers (which were popular at the time), museum pieces (Erica shows an antique sampler that she brought from the Royal School of Needlework), and even the Union Jack. For the project in this episode, Erica takes her inspiration from a Victorian piece of cross-stitch, and shows the viewer how to create a black lace effect entirely in counted cross-stitch. Stitches demonstrated in this episode are tent stitch and cross-stitch. Summary and select metadata for this record was submitted by Amanda Sikarskie.
