Close-up of a boy smiling with his eyes closed, with adults and children in the background, at the Recreation Day fair in Chinatown. Recreation Day, an event held on Saturday, August 20, on Oak Street in Chinatown, celebrated the Chinatown community's success in preventing the New England Medical Center from building a parking garage on Parcel C in Chinatown. Sponsored by the Coalition to Protect Parcel C for Chinatown, Recreation Day demonstrated the Chinese community's intention to use Parcel C to build a recreation and community center. There was music, food, and games for families and children at the fair. In this image, the boy is wearing a plastic, yellow apron, worn by the participants of the watermelon eating contest.
