This episode is very much about technical skills in stitchery. Stitches demonstrated in this episode are cross-stitch and herringbone stitch. Erica also shows how use cross-stitch for lettering, how to interlace herringbone with a contrasting color, and how to do cross-stitch over blocks of satin stitch. Historical pieces shown include a Victorian tablemat depicting chimney sweeps in silhouette using entirely black cross-stitch, as well as examples of peasant costume from (the former) Yugoslavia and Mexico. Erica also displays a cross-stitch sampler that she made depicting her home and family and a white lawn peasant blouse that she adorned with cross-stitch.
