An Italian soldier celebrates Italy's triumph over Austria with wine, scaring away a woman and child. CES BONS AUTRICHIENS is the title of an album published by the CHARIVARI in 1859. It contains 30 prints sur blanc, of which 23 are by Daumier. The remaining seven prints had been supplied by Charles Vernier. All these prints have previously appeared in the CHARIVARI under the series “Actualités” between February and July 1859. The prints of this album deal with the relatively short war between Italy and Austria, which ended in the unification of Italy under the Savoy reign. On July 10, 1859 an armistice was signed.
