Letter from Albert Bushnell Hart to Robert Morss Lovett, January 11, 1928
Title (alt.):
Robert Morss Lovett Letters
Albert Bushnell Hart Letters
Description:
Albert Bushnell Hart was an American historian, writer, and editor based at Harvard University. Hart was actually one of the first professionally trained historians located in the United States. The letters between Hart and Lovett show the deep divide in opinions surrounding the Sacco and Vanzetti Case. This particular letter contains a misspelling of Lovett's name in the address line. We see that Hart seeks to provide a non-biased argument toward President Lowell. Hart openly claims that Lowell spent a significant amount of time reflecting on the case. At the end of the letter, Hart gives Lovett some advice stating that by making a claim that Sacco and Vanzetti were not as intelligent as educated men weakens Lovett's overall claim of innocence.
