Charlmont 144 --Caption title. Width of road: 10 ft. Traveled way: width 6 ft., grade 0 ft. per 100. Surface: lower in centre than sides, uneven, soft loose sand, 8 in. deep material: sand sides: right, 8 in. above road-way, then slopes up, left, 10 in. above road-way, then slopes up gutters: right, none, left, none sidewalks: right, none, left, none. Remarks: Road is a natural dirt one. It is just worn through the turf. Photograph accompanies the Report of the Commission to Improve the Highways of the Commonwealth, 1893.
