After narrowly escaping extinction in 1960s, bald eagles have made a dramatic comeback in recent years. They're likely to be removed from the endangered species list as soon as federal officials are satisfied they're long-term future is secure. Loss of habitat is the main concern, but here in Southern California, our only resident population of bald eagles still faces a threat from the chemical that nearly drove them to extinction.
