Justice for Jason rally at UMass Amherst: protesters in support of Jason Vassell placing flowers in a chain link fence
Description:
From a series of photographs labeled "UMass racial assault (AP)." The series depicts a rally on the UMass campus by students and staff (per attached metadata) "in support of Jason Vassell, a 23-year-old African-American UMass student who supporters say has been excessively charged following a Feb. 3 on-campus fight, in Amherst, Mass. Wednesday, March 12, 2008. Vassell faces a hearing this Friday, while one of the two men who supporters say provoked the event at Vassell's own dormitory room, has not been charged at all. The other has been charged with hate crimes and disorderly conduct. Supporters of Vassell say the two men provoked the fight and should not face lesser charges and that the incident reveals society's racism."
