Letter from Benjamin Smith Lyman to Edward Gilbertson
Description:
Lyman is pleased that Gilbertson is recovering from his long illness and thanks him for the copy of his paper, "Japanese Sword Blades." Although he enjoyed the paper, Lyman is unsure it can serve as a replacement for the abstract already in place and hopes to send him a proof from the printer. He discusses Japan's progress in Formosa and the hopes that U.S. efforts in the Philippines will be beneficial and also lead to the end of prejudices against Asian cultures, particularly the Chinese.
