Inconvénient des jupons à ressort en acier, quand ce ressort vient à se casser.
Title (alt.):
Charivari. The disadvantage of steel reinforced petticoats, when the spring breaks.
Description:
A woman is wearing a skirt that has steel in its springs. Those springs have broken and have gone flying out of her skirt in public. CRINOLINES. In 1855 the first crinolines appeared on the streets of Paris. This new fashion was to remain “in” for more than 10 years. Maybe Ramus described the situation best:” The fashion designer Worth created for his female clients hoop skirts which over the years constantly increased in size. He was obviously following the trend of the period by creating crinolines which were quite extraordinary in size, of no practical use …. and they fitted perfectly into this period of extravagance and exuberance of the second Empire.
