The distinctive Waterman's funeral home building is captured in the center of the photograph. Prior to Waterman's purchase of the building in 1921, it was a private residence (and appears to be so this photograph). The Peerless building was in the square from 1910 to 1930, and the subway incline was extant from 1914 to 1930. The photograph was most likely taken from the present-day Hotel Buckminster.
