The Charlesbank close to West Boston Bridge from boat
Description:
This is a copy print, circa 1980-1990, of an original photograph created by the Charles River Basin Commission. In 1903, the CRBC hired Boston area photographer Luther H. Shattuck (1878-1960) to take contract progress photographs of the construction of the Charles River Dam, Boston Esplanade, and the Boston and Cambridge Marginal Conduits. Shattuck took more than 990 photographs between 1904 and 1910. All of these photographs are extant today, in addition to multiple original copies of some of them. 115 of them were also published in the CRBC Annual Reports. In 1990, the Metropolitan District Commission Archives transferred the main set of 990 prints and an additional 175 original copies to the Massachusetts State Archives (Records Series No. EN4.09/2299X).
