Postcard shows the Heywood-Wakefield furniture factory complex on Water Street. The view is looking north, with Water Street visible in front of the factory buildings. The Wakefield Rattan Company buildings comprised a large complex on Water Street. The company closed the Wakefield factory in 1931 and consolidated their manufacturing at the company's Gardner, Mass. plant. The buildings housed a number of commercial and industrial businesses in subsequent years, when the area was known as the Robie Industrial Complex. The buildings were torn down in the mid-2000s after significant controversy and debate over their historic value. The site is now occupied by a Shaw's supermarket. Card is undated but bears a postmark of 1906.
