Man and woman relaxing inside a tent, the woman drinking milk through a straw : Strike City Mississippi tent encampment
Description:
From a series of images of the Strike City Mississippi, in which sharecroppers set up a tent city on Lafayette Square, opposite the White House, to protest being thrown off their land near Leland, Miss., for registering to vote and for striking for higher wages. After spending the winter in a self-help cooperative in Mississippi, they came to Washington to lobby for federal aid. Life Magazine ref. no. 75485.
