From a series of images labeled "Singles scene in Washington," centered on Michael O'Harro. O'Harro began in the Arlington Knights of Columbus Hall in 1964 by creating a private club, the Junior Officers and Professional Association (JOPA) -- private to get around Virginia's blue laws -- which led to the Gentlemen II nightclub in D.C. in Sept. 1967, which is sometimes considered the nation's first stand-alone singles' club.
