Twenty-Eighth Annual Report of the Clarke Institution for Deaf-Mutes, 1895
Description:
Includes images of buildings, report of the corporation by Lewis J. Dudley, receipts and expenditures, principal's report by Caroline A. Yale, courses of study, catalogue of pupils, terms of admission, and the Massachusetts Law in regard to the Education of Deaf Mutes. The Primary Department had cases of scarlet fever and pneumonia, the separation of students into different departments prevented the spread of disease to another department. A student was killed while walking on a railroad track in October. Seven pupils graduated recently, and ten teachers attending training. The capacity of the Primary Department has doubled due to a new building. A petition was submitted to change the name from the Clarke Institution of Deaf-Mutes to the Clarke School for the Deaf. On June 17th there was a Public Day where all classrooms were open to guests. Eleven of the last seventeen graduates have gone on to hearing schools.
