McCormack writes E. F. Loveland to elaborate on two projects he mentioned to Loveland when they talked about the possibility of a sports concept for Shell Oil. He discusses the three films they made for the BBC entitled "The Best 18 Holes in Great Britain" and explains that their plan is to follow this up with "The Best 18 Holes in America," involving Arnold Palmer playing each hole against a different person, perhaps people such as Bing Crosby, Cliff Roberts, etc. He idicates that it is their hope that the two Best 18 series will be followed by other Best 18 series from other parts of the world. McCormack includes in his letter an excerpt from an internal memorandum discussing this series, which provides information on the production, choice of holes, format, and television plans of the project. "The Best 18 Holes in Britain" were played by Arnold Palmer and Tony Jacklin, with commentary by Henry Longhurst. The memo provides details surrounding the production of the film, which was done by a crew under the supervision of Phil Pilley. Specific holes were determined after consulting with golfers, club professionals, and members of the press in Great Britain and include the Old Course at St. Andrews; Troon; Turnberry; Carnoustie; Royal Birkdale; Royal Lytham and St. Anne's'; and Hoylake. The series is expected to air in the early spring of 1973 and NBC would probably make a time slot available for the program. McCormack provides details regarding the merchandising and promotional possibilities for this series. The second idea McCormack elaborates on is a sort of weekly "Sports in Depth" series created especially for Shell. He explains the concept of this series and provides a list of potential programs that might be produced, as well as specific elements of the show.
