Half-length portrait of a bearded man. Title devised by curator. Image surrounded by a gilded elliptical mat. Case, lined in purple velvet and satin, is brown leather with lyre motif on the front and a lined design on the back and is fastened by two hook-and-eye latches. Case dates the daguerreotype to ca.1843. Plumbe was one of the first photographers to operate a chain of studios in many major American cities.
