Formal portrait of Donald Cary Freeman in his earlier years. During the academic year 1968-69, he taught some of the first courses in the newly established Program in Linguistics. The next year he was appointed acting Chairman of the Program and revised the M.A. and Ph.D. programs to elevate the program to a department. In 1972, Freeman became head of the first Department of Linguistics. Later he became Associate Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Fine Arts before retiring as Emeritus Faculty. "Donald C.
