This miniature portrait by an unidentified artist depicts Emperor Shah Jahan (approximately 1592-1666), the fifth Mughal Emperor of India from 1628 to 1658. Shah Jahan erected the Taj Mahal at Agra as a tomb for his wife Mumtaz Mahal. The portrait is watercolor on ivory, set all over with red garnets. Artwork 03.043
