Paxton Hibben was a diplomat, journalist, author and humanitarian. He was also part of the Progressive Movement in the early 20th century. His final public act involved protest over the infamous Sacco-Vanzetti murder-trials of the 1920s along with other literary figures such as Edna St. Vincent Millay and Dorothy Parker. Ann Washington Craton worked as an organizer for the Amalgamated in the 1920s and helped other labor movement organizations. In this letter to Ann, Hibbean discusses his transcript along with his files on the Department of Justice. He states that his files demonstrate flaws in the Department of Justice. He further mentions that he feels the Department of Justice is reluctant to open their files in regard to Sacco and Vanzetti will show corruption and unscrupulous practices. This letter and others found in the collection offer scholars an insight into the efforts taken by prominent figures and everyday citizens for justice for Sacco and Vanzetti.
