A report submitted by Rae on the 1994 National Symposium on Involuntary Interventions: The Call for a Medical and Legal Response in Houston, Texas. Rae discusses her perceptions of each session of the conference, which included the current system of forced treatment, research on the use of coercion on the mental health care system with statistics, the blurring of judicial and mental health systems, the populations most at risk of involuntary treatment, policy and program trends in the United States, managed health care, and reform of involuntary treatment practices. There is also a photocopy of an article from a newspaper that reports on activists disrupting the symposium, and case citations from one of the session talks.
