ICD trainee Cyril Scheibel works on the box for the 1953 President's Trophy
Description:
An ICD trainee sits at a workbench and does finishing work on the leather of the box for the 1953 President's Trophy. The inside cover of the box reads, "This trophy and box were designed and made by students in the commercial art, leathergoods and jewelry classes and the occupational therapy woodworking shop of the Institute for the Crippled and Disabled 23rd St. and 1st Ave., New York City." A caption reads, "Cyril Scheibel, 50, of 9515 Lefferts Boulevard, Richmond Hill, N.Y., helped to make the handcrafted tooled leather case fro the trophy which President Eisenhower awards today to the nation's "Handicapped Man of the Year". Mr. Scheibel helped make the case while a student in the Institute's leathergood manufacturing class."
