Album 42: Family photograph album by Francis C. Manning
Description:
This album includes photographs of homes, recreational activities, churches, and summer cottages. The album was created presumably by rancis Cogswell Manning of Boston. The photographs were taken between 1882 and 1885, and are annotated with information about exposure times and the type of camera used. Of particular note are the photographs of the interiors of homes in Boston, Newton, Jamaica Plain, and Petersham, Mass., and Bar Harbor, Maine. See pages 36, 37, 63, 99, 103, 104, 105, 107, 125, 129, and 151 for wallpaper. Also of note are the church interiors in Boston and Dedham, Mass. The structure at 129 Commonwealth Ave. in Boston is particularly well documented, as is Commonwealth Ave. shortly after construction had begun on the block including number 129. Recreational views include sleigh rides and lawn sports. The album also includes views of haying and other agricultural scenes including cows and views of family pets. The quality of these photographs is unusually good in terms of their detail and visual impact.
