Commençant des visites électorales pour son Prince.
Title (alt.):
Charivari. Beginning the electoral calls for his prince.
Description:
This print shows Marie Joseph Louis Adolphe Thiers (1797-1877) supporting the candidacy of Louis-Napoléon, while calling him a cretin in private. During his entire political career, Thiers managed to aptly adjust to the changing winds of politics and to never get trapped by the system. Here again his decision to support Napoléon proved to be right. Only a short time later Napoléon launched his coup d'état and Thiers stood again on the side of the winner.
