Fessenden (almost verbatim with no correction of spelling and grammer). Includes introduction to persons noted from CWA II: "George Harris Fessenden was born March 19, 1826, one of four sons and one daughter of Philip Bemis Fessenden born in Menotomy, Massachusetts in 1797. Philip was married to Rebecca Cutter Tufts in 21 July 1820. In his youth Philip manifested a great love of nature -- flowers and birds. At one time probably suggested by the birds he attempted to fly. WIth the aid of springs taken from an old chaise he mounted a tree and flew but unlike the birds he alighted heavily on a pile of stones much to his discomfort. Later on, her with others spent many hours to discover perpetual motion which is yet to be discovered. Like his Father, he was a miller. He outlived the old grist mill and turned his attention to the grinding of spices and drugs. Philip Fessenden held the office of Selectman and served on the School Board. George H. Fessenden was in his ealry twenties when he became a 49er. He married Eliza Pierce Tufts of West Cambridge (later Arlington) on June 6, 1854 and had one daughter Fannie Cutter. In 1855 he had left the gold fields and was back in West Cambridge. (At this time his brother Charles was in St. Anthrony Minnn. and secured a lot of land for George. George died on October 12, 1869. George's only sister Almira Tufts Fessenden was my Great Grandmother whom I knew as a child. I called her Grandma Upstairs as she lived on the third floor and I had sicx other grandparents then living. As a child my grandparents took me to see Fannie, George's daugher several times. She had been married to a man named Willard Elules but they had no children. She lived in Waltham and was not well off. My grandfather Omar Whittemore was born in Menneapolis in 1854. His family had gone there undoubtedly along with George Fessenden. Omar's mother, Ella Louisa, told me of the Indians and prairie fires they had there.
