Women's skirt : Black taffeta skirt embroidered with cord & beads , pleated ruffle at hem, long train. Listed in accession books as 1890 vintage, but possibly earlier as shows alterations, especially where embroidery breaks across seam lines in some places & not others, and handsewn except for ruffle addition, and glazed lining , and breadth of hem. cartridge pleating at waist in back. Decorated with bead embroidery running down front and next to hem, with pleated hem. Unlined except for hem and underneath beading at hem. Waist is undone on right side. Gathered in cartridge pleats in back of waistline. Skirt may have been originally made in early 1870s, based on fullness in back and size of hem. Modern sticker inside hem with "21 - 3" written on it. also listed in accession book as "silk"
