This photograph is a portrait of the Summer Session at the School for Christian Workers, now Springfield College, at 1887. All of the men sitting for the portrait are wearing sports clothes, more likely gymnastics clothes of the time. A rug can be seen on the floor. It is believed the Goldsmith Photography studio took the picture as its name reads on the lower side of the picture. On the back of the photograph a handwritten caption reads "Summer Session 1887 Copy 2". Robert J. Roberts and Luther Halsey Gulick are in the middle of the second row. There is an exact copy of this photograph. You can see that here: http://cdm16122.contentdm.oclc.org/cdm/ref/collection/p15370coll2/id/8692
