Notes:
Established in 1896, the Palama Settlement is a non-profit, community-based social service agency serving the Kalihi and Palama neighborhoods on Honolulu. The Honolulu milk depot sold raw milk at a discounted price to parents with children under fifteen months. They also provided free informational literature and in-house educational visits. The director of the Palama Settlement in Hawaii was James Arthur Rath, Class of 1904 of the International YMCA Training School, now Springfield College. Mr. Rath, originally from India, went to Hawaii in 1905. The Palama settlement provided needed medicine and nutrition elements lacking in the care of the children of Hawaii. The photograph is torn in upper and lower left corners and the lower right hand corner.
A caption on the back reads "Interior, Milk Depot".
