Nick received the writing paper from Letty's Aunt Alice, and asks Letty to thank her for him. On Sunday night there was the biggest crowd at South Station. He was able to make it onto a train but he couldn't get a sleeping car. While they were travelling through Connecticut one of the couplings holding the cars together snapped, no one was hurt but they were held up for over an hour.
