Nick usually tries to write to his father, sister, and aunt every week but for the past month he has only written to Letty. The Sergeant has become a lieutenant, they still work together but they now live and eat in different places. He is the only soldier in the office since everyone else is a lieutenant, he is sorry that he did not get his application in earlier so he could be a lieutenant too. When he comes home, Nick will be able to explain why the commission application took so long. Nick hopes that business at the billiard room is going well since the boys are starting to come home.
