Articles of Agreement between Enoch Hamond of Cambridge and Seth and Thomas Reed of Charlestown for the building of a house. Transcript attached in Media. In 1762, Seth and Thomas Reed decided to build a new home for the family and wrote up a contract with a builder named Enoch Hamond. The contract outlines the responsibilities of both parties. This contract shows what was required of customer and builder in colonial New England. Enoch Hamond, the builder, was responsible for finding and providing the materials needed to build the house and was required to finish the house by a certain date. As for the Reeds, they were required to find Hamond suitable and convenient lodging while he built their home. They were also required to pay him before the completion of the house.
