In 1900, Alice Grady lived at 35 Otis Street with her father, Thomas and mother, Margaret and brother, Wallace and sister Margaret. Both Alice and Margaret's names are on the quilt. Alice began her career as a stenographer for Louis D. Brandeis at Massachusetts Savings Bank Life Insurance (SBLI) before he was appointed the the United States Supreme Court. They collaborated for decades - Alice is mentioned in all biographies of Justice Brandeis. Alice assumed leadership of SBLI when Brandeis was appointed to the Supreme court. She worked in the Brandeis law office from 1894-1916.
