Title (alt.):
Edward Holton James Letters
Forrest Bailey Letters
Description:
Edward Holton James, the nephew of philosopher William James and novelist Henry James, was an American socialist. In 1927, James took part in a Sacco and Vanzetti meeting at the Boston Common during the trial. In this letter to Forrest Bailey (ACLU), James states he went to the Sacco-Vanzetti Defense Committee and met with Aldino Felicani, Mary Donovan, and Gardner Jackson. James notes that Felicani feels that the National Sacco-Vanzetti League was trying to undermine him. Felicani indicated that the Defense Committee would be handling the publication of the Sacco and Vanzetti letters. James goes on to mention an affidavit by Coacci in Italy in 1921. However, no one knows where the affidavit went. The last part of the letter, James claims that he will do his best to keep the peace between the two groups.
