'Joe Bill, Peter, two others not present, and Joan Garniss were part of a group in high school (1956-1959) who met every other week to discuss 'great ideas' and feel very sophisticated. We had already lost two original members and one spouse. This was Peter's last gathering. Howard, Callie, and Candy are spouses who fit right in. We went our separate ways after high school and reconnected in 1986. Since then, we have met regularly in the summer. This was our third winter gathering. Joe Bill Zilinsky went to Bowdoin and taught microbiology at the University of Wisconsin/Oshkosh. Callie Zilinsky went to the University of Maine and was the head of Visiting Nurses in Oshkosh. Peter Van Aken went to M.I.T. and Harvard Business School. He was an Associate Vice President at Boston University then Vice President of Community Relations at Brandeis. He left to create a very high-tech company (Xanalog). He was a Town Father in Winchester, a highly-decorated Eagle Scout and Council Leader. Candace Van Aken is an artist and an art teacher at Medford High School. Howard Garniss is a musician, and a graduate of Boston University and Harvard School of Education. He taught instrumental music in Boston and Waltham and is a busy player. Joan Garniss graduated from Boston University and and is an active pianist and piano teacher. She is Chair of the Waltham Public Library Trustees. The high school is Foxcroft Academy in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine.
