'The last day of the feast, this parade is held, always a Sunday, and the route starts at Brooklawn Park and ends at the feast grounds on Madeira Avenue. My husband was vice-president of the committee. It was put on by people of Madeiran heritage. Four men that survived getting here on a rough voyage. In thanksgiving for being alive, they promised the Blessed Sacrament that they would hold a four-day feast in honor of the Blessed Sacrament (reproducing what was in the old country), and this festival carries on that tradition. It is the largest such feast in honor of the Blessed Sacrament in the world. The parade starts in the North End at St. Joseph's Church and Acushnet Avenue to Earl Street. The parade is held on Sunday--the last day. After Mass, there is a dinner, then the parade. Pictured: Fernanda Gonsalves (second person in line). Location: North End.'
