'This is a photo of a theater group that means a lot to me. First, because I enjoy history. Second, because I interacted with some of the members of this group when I was a young man of about sixteen or seventeen at the Centro Luso Americano Club on the corner of North Front and Beetle Streets. I took part in some of the plays they staged and traveled with the troupe as far as Cumberland, Rhode Island at the Club Juventude. This picture was taken before I was involved with the group. I think the group had its last performance in 1960. I played the role of a codfish merchant named Narciso. Two other people I remember from the play were Lucilia (Pinto) and Antonio Marmelo. The last two played the role if a romantic couple. 'Estrella do Norte' means 'North Star' in English, and is in the North End of New Bedford.
