'In 1849 masses were first celebrated in Stoughton in the old Austin House, a home belonging to Mr. Robert Porter. In 1859 purchased land and building of a little wooden church of Roman design on the corner of Canton and School Streets. Census revealed in 1861 that there were 150 Catholic families in Stoughton. In 1967 plans for a new brick building were drawn up to replace wooden church. New church was completed in 1974.'
