'In northern England, each spring would be 'Whit Sunday' when the local churches would have the 'Whit Walks.' Whit is short for Whitsuntide. Each church would have a banner and all members would walk in procession to the local town hall where a special service was held. Girls would hold a posy of flowers or hold a ribbon from the large banner. Everyone got a new dress for the walks. There were also brass bands accompanying each church. Photos shows me with my mum and brothers and sisters. Pictured: my sister Allison Yates, my brother Peter Yates, my mum Kathleen Wilson Yates, my other brother Mark Yates, and myself Victoria Yates. Location: Cockbrook Evangelical Church.'
