Relaying his "instant" reaction to Crawford's letter (mums312-b192-i471), essentially that W. E. B. Du Bois had no right to publish defamatory material about him twice in the "Crisis"; describing the various ensuing scandals and his attorneys' efforts coming up with an equitable settlement; and expressing his own desire to amicably resolve the matter.
