Parisians are getting on the train so that they might be able to see the tidal bore (a type of tidal wave that occurs in rivers) described by the scientist Babinet. This print refers to special trains allowing Parisians to watch the phenomenon of the tide at Quilleboeuf described by the scientist Babinet. BABINET, Jacques (1794 – 1872) was a polytechnician, professor of mathematics and astronomer at the Bureau des Longitudes. He was also an associate at the „Journal des Débats“ and at the „Revue des Deux Mondes“.
