Casimir Pierre Périer (1777-1832) is having a nightmare about being crushed by a hanging rock on which is written "récompense nationale" (national reward). The huge syringe on his belly is a symbol for Lobau and Soult, whose brutal actions suppressed Republican riots in Lyon and caused Périer insomnia. Some historians believe that the person shown here might be Lafayette.
