Transcript of an interview with longtime Boston resident, teacher, dancer, and artist Jai Johnson Underhill. The interview was part of the We are Boston: Stories of Hope, Struggle, and Resilience oral history project created in 2018 by poet and Boston artist-in-residence Daniel Johnson. Underhill describes her life in Jamaica Plain and everything she loves about the Boston neighborhood; her work as a jeweler, art teacher, and dancer; and the value of education. She also details instances of racism and discrimination, agism, and her experience of the Vietnam War as a teenager.
