ESSAYANT SES FORCES. - Sacrebleu, comme vous y allez... vous allez finir par me démolir cette tête là!....
Title (alt.):
Charivari. AN ASSESSMENT OF POWER. - Oh dear, the way you are going for it... just don't smash the head please!....
Description:
The print shows the fictitious Ratapoil with Léon Léonard Joseph Faucher (1803-1854) and Pierre Antoine Berryer (1790-1868). The debates in Parliament about a change in the Constitution were heating up. When the votes were counted, 440 were in favor and 270 against, which meant that a quorum of 3/4 had not been reached and the old Constitution remained in power. This print shows Barrot representing the majority thrashing the head of Faucher in a circus scene. Even Ratapoil seems to be impressed.
