William A. Palmer Born in {Thetford}, Vermont_Son of Josiah Palmer_By occupation a Machinist_Married_At the age of 38 years on July 11, 1862, enlisted for 3 years in 37th Reg. Massachusetts Vol. Infantry_Rank Private. He participated in most of the campaigns of his Regiment. At one time he was company cook during which period it is presumed he was not engaged_A few days subsequent to the enlistment he was promoted to Sergeant’s place in the battle of “{Opequan}”, September 19, 1864, he was wounded in the left lung and two days thereafter died of his wound in the field hospital.
