'The Mayor's Walkability Committee obtained permission from Malden-native Frank Stella, to use his artwork as a border on signs to promote walking through the city. Most people over estimate how long it takes to walk to a destination and research shows that calling out the minutes rather than distance encourages walking. Then Walk Boston, the premier organization in the country promoting walkability, saw Malden's signs, and gave us the Golden Show Award for being the first in the United States to combine fine art and walking. Frank Stella graciously 'came home' for the fun celebration and shared his memories of growing up and walking around Malden.
